About History

Kiroko Foundation was established in 2021 by Bishop Kamau Kiroko after a poignant visit to his home
village of Mariaini in Murang’a County. During this visit, Bishop Kamau was deeply moved by the
hardships faced by the local community, including poverty, ignorance, and a lack of basic needs. These
challenges reminded him of his own struggles during his educational journey in the 1970s, sparking a
desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Witnessing the distress in Mariaini, Bishop Kamau felt a calling to take action. Driven by a vision to
restore hope and transform the lives of families in his village, he laid the groundwork for the Kiroko
Foundation. Initially focused on providing scholarships to improve access to education, the foundation’s
scope gradually expanded to address a broader range of issues.
By incorporating initiatives such as entrepreneurship training, leadership development, and community
empowerment programs, the Kiroko Foundation set out to create lasting change. Its mission centers on
empowering the youth and building self-reliant communities equipped to overcome challenges and
unlock their potential.
In 2024, the foundation was officially registered, marking a significant milestone in its journey of service.
This formal recognition solidified its commitment to addressing the urgent needs of the community and
fostering sustainable growth and development. Today, the Kiroko Foundation continues to be a beacon
of hope, transforming lives and inspiring a brighter future for the people of Mariaini and beyond
